A distributor of leading brand products in CCTV, fire detection and access control, Compass Security is based in Pinetown and has accrued 30 years of experience in the security industry. Compass’s Mark Horne, says that he found the seminar extremely informative and it allowed him to appreciate the frustrations and risks faced by security managers within the residential estate sector.
He points out that because resellers and installers are generally the primary interface with end users, it is not often that he gets the opportunity to hear about security issues from estate managers. He adds that the presentations from the speakers as well as the interactive sessions preceding and succeeding the presentations, provided Compass with an unparalleled chance to discuss relevant technology and determine the best technology for the application at hand.
Compass focused primarily on its HD, licence plate recognition and thermal imaging cameras. He says that surveillance and associated analytics of an estate perimeter is extremely important and the use of thermal imaging cameras is specifically pertinent in this respect. In addition to this, Compass’ range of HD cameras, not only offer a traditional security function but they can also be used to record the speed of vehicles. This is an added benefit for estate managers who may then take preventative measures to ensure the safety of others on the estate.
He adds that another benefit of the HD cameras employing analytics is the ability to determine vehicle queue length. This can be a major issue for residential estates, with visitor and resident vehicles often protruding into mainstream traffic due to volumes or system problems and inefficiency. The analytics will enable the system to determine when the queue has reached a certain critical length and to send a visual and/or audible alert to the control room for immediate intervention to alleviate the problem.
