Tyco Integrated Fire and Security (TIFS) was recently awarded the contract to secure the 10 km perimeter of a farm in Kathu, Northern Cape.
The farm was earmarked for a large solar panel project and required perimeter detection to provide first line defence against any potential intrusion. The dual perimeter fence needed to be covered by a detection method that would eliminate excessive false alarms and also provide a visual verification of a potential breach.
“We opted for thermal imaging cameras with video analytics,” said Clint Odendaal, business development manager: global accounts for TIFS. He explained that these thermal cameras were positioned at 300 m intervals around the perimeter, monitoring the fence via virtual tripwires managed on the Tyco VideoEdge platform. “We also positioned a number of IP cameras and IP high-speed domes in strategic areas to support the thermal cameras.”
The data from the cameras is managed in the on-site control room via Tyco’s Victor video management software, which also includes various access control points at the main entrance to the farm.
“This allows for full security management of the site, and guards are quickly deployed from their positions to areas of concern before a potential fence breach is made,” said Odendaal.
