Traditional fisheye cameras have been designed specifically to provide an overview of a large environment. This ensures excellent situational awareness and the added benefit of not losing any critical video footage – as often happens when a speed dome was focusing on another point. Due to the design of such Fisheye cameras, detail at longer viewing ranges is mostly of poor quality.
With Speed Dome cameras, an operator has the flexibility to manipulate the view of the camera and to enhance the detail of an image by zooming into the area he wishes to view more clearly.
By combining these two devices, Vivotek has created a solution that provides a 100% complete overview by combining a Vivotek SF8172V Fisheye camera with Vivotek’s 2MP SD8362E Speed Dome. The fisheye camera provides a constant overview of the environment which the operator can use as a point of quick reference for any events that might occur. As soon as an event of interest has been spotted, the operator simply needs to click and drag around the area. The speed dome camera will then pan, tilt and zoom into position in order to provide an overview of that area.
