Artificial Intelligence is the technological ability to work more efficiently and resolve problems. In the case of CCTV systems, this allows cameras with intelligence to identify certain objects and support specific functions or applications.
The recognition feature on cameras with sophisticated algorithms can further be used to identify specific objects, such as vehicles and humans, and over time self-learning has increased the confidence level of recognition. These capabilities provide enormous value to existing CCTV systems.
However, with the rate at which CCTV systems are evolving, operators are facing a challenge with the lack of automation in traditional systems. Operators need to review hours of footage which makes this a tedious and time-consuming task, and no consistent approach is applied to review and investigate specific incidents.
By providing automation, the time-consuming investigations could be eliminated. This can be achieved by upgrading to exception-based management, which identifies real-time incidents that are triggered by specific business rules. The consistent approach to closing the incident could be followed by providing standard operating procedures for the operator to follow.
Artificial intelligence and automation are key aspects that could be provided to existing CCTV cameras to provide additional value and more relevance to business.
