Replicate Synology data to Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud

Issue 1 2022 Infrastructure

Data has become one of the most expensive currencies as companies stand to lose millions to billions if there are no proper data security solutions in place. 2020 shifted a lot of businesses out of their comfort zone and companies were forced to employ security solutions with the abrupt change of people working remotely.

There are different types of cybersecurity solutions available for companies to use and the right solution is determined by each customer’s security requirements. Traditional on-premises solutions are still the go-to solution for most companies as they offer the sense of control and of course, some IT managers prefer something that they can physically see and touch.

The introduction of cloud computing technologies has changed how people see and use IT infrastructure on a day-to-day basis and the virtual and digital world has made people dependent on the Internet and technology.

People now want to access information from wherever they are, at their convenience, 24/7 and restoring data fast is also very important. The Synology NAS gives you these capabilities, but they are still an on-premises solution. Storage on these devices can be extended, but scalability can be a challenge. That is why Rectron advises customers who are using Synology NAN to also replicate their data to the cloud.

A strong data security stance is that where you have at least three copies of your data in different locations. Replicating your data stored on your Synology NAS to the Acronis Cyber Protect cloud means relying on a well-managed cloud solution that is more secure than your own on-premises data centre or storage device.

Natural disasters happen, hard drives fail and ransomware attacks are still very much on the rise. With cloud backup, you have peace of mind knowing that your data is safe, available wherever you are and you leave the burden of keeping hardware infrastructure up-to-date to the service provider while you have peace of mind knowing that your data is safe and you have followed the proper data safety compliance and governance required. Being PoPIA compliant is very important and not having good compliance in place can cost you millions.

Scalability is fundamental and you do not want to face running out of storage space while you have backups running. Cloud also offers de-duplication technologies, cutting down cost and saves in bandwidth.
