Elvey was recently appointed as a distributor for the Ajax range of intrusion technology. According to Ingo Mutinelli, head of sales in South Africa for Ajax Systems, the decision was clear-cut and based on Elvey’s long-standing reputation for successfully growing the footprint of various security technology brands throughout southern Africa.
“Elvey has a strong national branch network, which includes all formerly TPA-branded outlets, each manned by a highly competent and technically skilled team of support technicians and engineers. The network will provide our customers with the highest levels of technical pre- and after-market support and service, ensuring best advice on installations, prompt product turnaround times and maximised system uptime,” Mutinelli points out.
The Ajax product line includes 33 devices for protection of premises and adjacent territories, fire safety, and flood protection, as well as home automation. It can also integrate video surveillance.
Two separate, free apps – one for installers and one for homeowners – allow remote configuring and controlling of Ajax systems. Some of the features for installers include quick search for a client’s property by name or hub ID, as well as remote setup, management and testing of devices. Homeowners benefit from a virtual panic button, remote adjustment of detection zones and testing of radio signal quality, and smart reminders about arming and disarming of the system.
Control panels
The Ajax Hub control panel manages all Ajax devices, arms and disarms the property, and in case of a threat, notifies an alarm response centre as well as the user via SMS, push notification or phone call. The hub uses Ajax’s encrypted radio protocol, Jeweller, to connect to detectors and monitor them.
Ajax Cloud is the company’s cloud server that connects the user’s hub to their smartphone. It allows the Ajax system to deliver instantaneous alarm notifications, be configured with ease and receive Internet updates that continue making the system more secure.
There are four models of the hub: Hub, Hub 2, Hub Plus and Hub 2 Plus:
• The hub sends an alarm signal to the owner and the central monitoring station via Ethernet and GSM.
• Hub alerts users about open doors, broken windows, threats of fire and flooding. If a burglar breaks into the user’s home, Hub, Hub 2 and Hub 2 Plus transmit pictures from the MotionCam detectors, thereby providing visual verification, and notify the alarm response company about the danger.
• Hub Plus is a second-generation intelligent control panel with four communication channels (Ethernet, Wi-Fi, 2G/3G and video streaming), a new powerful processor, tripled RAM capacity and doubled Flash memory capacity.
• Hub 2 Plus supports Wi-Fi and three mobile communication standards, including LTE, a 4G technology comparable in speed and reliability to Ethernet. Using Wings – an innovative radio protocol developed for fast transmission of visual data over vast distances – it can provide visual alarm verification in only 9 seconds. Built-in algorithms of package checking and re-uploading allow Wings to deliver photos at a distance of up to 1700 metres.
ReX is the Ajax security system radio signal range extender that expands the boundaries of the protected area. It controls the system devices connected to it, enabling the user to place them at a considerable distance from the hub.
Ajax detectors
Ajax has a number of detectors for either indoor or outdoor use. Indoor security detectors include the MotionCam, MotionProtect, Motion Protect Plus, CombiProtect (with glass break detector), MotionProtect Curtain (with narrow viewing angle), DoorProtect, DoorProtect Plus (with opening detector, shock detector and tilt sensor), and the GlassProtect glass break detector.
For outdoor security, the Ajax MotionProtect Outdoor detector identifies trespassing from the moment an intruder steps onto the homeowner’s property and instantly raises the alarm. These detectors are wireless, can ignore animals and swaying trees, and have anti-sabotage protection.
Ajax also has two fire detection devices – the FireProtect and FireProtect Plus – which promptly react to smoke or a sharp temperature rise. Moreover, FireProtect Plus can prevent carbon monoxide poisoning. The Ajax fire detectors can operate independently from the security system. Several detectors combine to create a fire fighting system and alert users about danger in unison with built-in sirens and smartphone alerts.
The range of Ajax detectors is complemented by the corrosion-resistant LeaksProtect flood prevention detector which identifies pipe breakages, as well as washing machine or dishwasher leaks. LeaksProtect raises the alarm at the first sign of moisture. The compact dimensions allow the detector to be installed under washing machines and dishwashers and no tools are needed for installation.
“We are thrilled with our appointment as an Ajax distributor and we look forward to working together with installers to devise customised, smart monitoring solutions for their customers’ installations,” says Zane Greeff, sales lead at Elvey.
